Petunia and the Vipers ( 2012) 5*****
Extraordinary diverse mélange of styles inside and outside of country music but all blends together into one delicious stew!

Victor Camozzi – Roadside paradise (2011) 2.5**

Wrinkle Neck Mules – Apprentice to ghosts (2012) 3.5***
Some really good Southern Country Rock music that is not really done any justice by that phrase! It includes a little Bluegrass and some terrific high lonesome harmonies!

Chuck Prophet – Temple Beautiful (2012) 3***
Really good rootsy album. Not his best but even a lesser album by Prophet matches the best of many others!

Highlonesome – The unholy gospel according to ………. (2011) 2.5**
More driving punked up hillbilly/alt.country but very messy production!

Garron Frith – Away from the bright lights (2012) 3.5***
Really good singer songwriter album that floats around the edges of folk, country and blues without ever diving too deeply into any of them

Marvin Etzioni – Marvin country (2012) 3*** (reassessing from March)
A disappointing album that despite duets with the likes of Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle amongst others, still sounds better with just Etzioni’s vocals. Disc 2 is edgier but almost too experimental with sounds. As he’s proved before he is capable of much better, but almost frustratingly some of it is exceptionally good!

feel!
