13th June 2018
I thought I would upload this note a few weeks before the event so that people can avoid sending me c.ds and downloads when there is little or no chance of reviews appearing, although having that, I still receive material for my radio show despite having stopped doing the show 3 months ago, so no doubt not everyone will see this!
I have a birthday coming up at the end of July and have decided to use that as my retirement date. I'm going to keep www.americanrootsuk.com going in one form or another with bits and pieces that I feel like writing and maybe even an occasional c.d review but basically there will be no more regular reviews. I'm loathe to stop completely having done this for a very long time, particularly if you include the pre website days of writing for printed magazines. I can't say how frequently I will be adding material, maybe more in the winter than the summer; we'll just have to see.
I'd like to thank all of the artists, p.r people, agents, managers, record companies, etc. far too numerous to thank individually, who have sent me c.ds and downloads over many years but mainly the artists who have made so many great albums that have held and will no doubt continue to hold my interest! Also thanks to the readers, without whom the whole thing would be pointless and who over the last eight years have pushed the site viewing figures well past half a million a year. The site started as a hobby, then took over my life and now it's going back to being an occasional hobby! Time will tell how occasional.
The following is a list of reviews that are finished, nearly finished or just about started! These will be the last to appear on www.americanrootsuk.com at least on a regular basis.
New albums by Cold Tone Harvest, Dan Israel, Anna & Elizabeth, Oliver the Crow, The Tillers, Green Rock River Band, Dusty Rust, Gwenifer Raymond, Jeb Barry, The Mammals, Kendl Winter, Carter Sampson, Clay Parker & Jodi James, Davis Kathriner, Mean Mary and maybe one or two more. lick here to edit.

I know I've always said I won't advertise on this website but I thought these plectrums/picks may be of interest to musician friends. Each one is hand crafted and unique and if you're interested contact details are via the website link below or the email address.

For various reasons, one of which is that I'm just not enjoying it anymore, I've decided to give up my radio show. Thanks to both stations mentioned below for the opportunity to inflict my personal taste in music on the public at large over the last, nearly, 10 years.
All of my past shows are available on the 'Radio' page drop down menu

The incomparable Malcolm Holcombe at the Latest Music bar, Brighton on 8th March 2011.
If he plays in your town/city do yourself a huge favour by going to see him! You won't be sorry.
If you can't see him, buy his c.d's

This site is dedicated to Alt. Country, Americana, Blues, Folk, even No Depression, call it what you will! In the end it's all American Roots Music! There are and will continue to be c.d. reviews, gig reviews, lists of forthcoming gigs in and around the Brighton area and much more besides! The Histories of American Roots and Blues are based on a series of lectures that I gave a few years ago, with much more to be added to these and with the format gradually changing. The book reviews are likely to be just occasional, time to read much, being at a premium! The radio playlists are self explanatory and as with much of the rest of the content, may gradually evolve.
Any feedback/criticism would be appreciated particularly if it is polite and constructive!
Hope you find something of interest on the site.
