McDougall – A few towns more (2012) 4.5****
Terrific raw rootsy acoustic ‘troubadour’ music by a consistently excellent master of the genre who evokes that ‘old weird America’
feel!

John Murry – The Graceless Age (2012) 3***
Dark and with it’s roots deep in country music, but it may be necessary to come up with a new genre for this highly original artist!

Digger Barnes – Every story true (2012) 3***
Very sparse mellow sounds on an album that has it’s fair share of dark songs. Well sung, well written and played haunting folksy country songs on an album that is very one paced, but that is probably the whole idea and it is a decent listen!

The Whispering Pines (2012) 3***
The Lucky Strikes, Matthew Boulter’s more reflective side on an album that is never quite country, never quite folk but has strong elements of both making a slightly unusual stew of mellow sounding ‘roots music.’

The Two Man Gentlemen Band – Two at a time (2012) 4****
Quirky, superbly played and sung, often humourous music that is evocative of jazzy, vaudevillian times gone by! Totally unique!
