Seaside Hospital Radio ‘American Roots’ playlist for 6th April 2011
Slightly different format this week. I was joined in the studio by Phil Jones of Hatful of Rain and sometimes the Curst Sons! He brought in a dozen or so tracks and we had a chat about his life in music, influences etc. I’m still hoping to transcribe the chat and put it on the website but not sure if it’s possible yet. The first section of the list is Phil’s selections.
Phils Choices: The list pretty much confirms that Phil is a man with great musical taste!
The final track is a demo of a newly written song by Chloe Overton, singer and songwriter with Hatful of Rain. It is the most beautiful song that we played in the whole two hours of the programme and deserves a much wider audience!

A couple of changes to the format this week. The album of the week is so good I decided to play 4 tracks from it! I’ve also been toying with the idea of having a featured artist each week and playing tracks from various stages of their career. They will not always be well known, in fact some will be decidedly unknown but if I like them that will be enough for them to be featured! As you can see, this week it was the late Gram Parsons, arguably the father of country rock, but inarguably the father of ‘Cosmic American music’!
